Bad Company 2 Squad Deathmatch Dev Walkthrough

EA released a new Bad Company 2 video today showing one of the new gamemodes called Squad Deathmatch. In Squad Deathmatch up to four squads with four players each take on each other in a race to 50 kills. The mode takes advantage of the series’ spawn-to-squadleader feature to help keep your team together in the field. In addition, new previews talking about the newly announced Squad Deathmatch gamemod in the game can be found on IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, Joystiq and Fragland. Bad Company 2 lands on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 2, with the PC version boasting various improvements over the console editions. FYI, Battlefield 1943 is slated for a PC release in the first quarter of 2010, having hit PS3 and 360 in July.

The mode, as I said, is called Squad Deathmatch and it plays as simply as it sounds. You and your squad have to be the first to get 50 kills (kill limits can be changed in the settings) by eradicating the opposition which consists of three other teams of four players (at its max). Aiding you — or perhaps the other teams if they capitalize first — is a vehicle specifically designed to eradicate soldiers on foot. It’s the sole vehicle in this mode so capturing it is of the utmost importance. The maps that you’ll find in Squad Deathmatch are specifically tailored to the mode, with certain areas designed to provide a strategic advantage to the vehicle while the opposite is true elsewhere. It’s also cool that, depending on what multiplayer mode you select, you could get an entirely different portion of the map than you would in another game type. A map’s total area can be up to 64 square kilometers and every piece will surely be used by one mode or another.

The map we were playing on, known as Laguna Presa, is home to gobs of lush greenery that seemed to pop off the screen a bit more than any of the colors in the first Bad Company. There are large shipping crates situated around the level that act as protective cover from the marauding tank that chops down soldiers. Laguna Presa also changes elevations quite often — with both high ground and low ground — and includes plenty of shrubbery which makes for an easy hiding place for snipers. Unlike other games, the camouflage in Bad Company 2 actually works pretty damn well. Just ask the knife in my character’s back.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PC Beta Delayed

DICE producer, Gordon Van Dyke made a post on the Battlefield blog talking about the PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Originally expected to drop in December, the beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on the PC has been pushed back until early 2010.
We wanted to update you, and slow the flood of tweets, on questions surrounding the BFBC2 PC Beta being cancelled. I’ll get right to it and say “the BFBC2 PC Beta is not cancelled”. Now this all started due to changes made to an earlier blog that removed the PC Beta from the details and the reason for this was the plan changed. With the huge success of the PS3 Beta we decided to drastically increase the PC Beta’s capacity to insure as many people as possible could participate. Unfortunately this meant we had to delay the Beta to very early next year giving us more planning time to make it happen and implement more optimizations.

Here is a recap of the current PC features, and we can now confirm DX11 support with more details to come later!

PC Enhanced Features
 * Up to 32 Players on PC (24 on consoles) – Play with up to 32 players online in the biggest multiplayer Maps in Battlefield. Each with a different tactical and gameplay focus set across a variety of environments.
 * Full DirectX 9, 10 & 11 Support – Immerse yourself in the Battlefield world as Frostbite engine brings tanks, planes, and explosions to vivid life on your PC. The game will fully support Windows XP, Vista, and 7 with new tech that further improves things like lighting and shadows.
 * Enhanced Gameplay – The PC version also includes wide peripheral support like Joysticks for flying, NVDIA 3D Vision, Logitech LCD Keyboards and VoIP Support plus a variety of specific features tailored for PC play.
 * Friend Support – Find your friends online with the new buddy list to see if and who is online so you can quickly join their game.
 * Dedicated Ranked Server – Everyone gets non-stop action with no connection penalties based on some other player’s internet. Ranked Server Provider program will give players opportunity to rent their own server(s) located in professional grade datacenters, ability to modify settings like map rotation, create reserved slots for friends or clan members, kick & Ban players, and custom name your ranked server.
 * Clan Support & Private Servers – Independent Clan Tag, and ability to rent servers for hosting and controlling private password protected competitive servers with expanded control over the settings from public ranked servers.
 * PC Squad Play System – Updated from previous Battlefield PC titles now gives control of your squad before heading into combat.

Left for Dead 2 PC Demo out now

Valve has just announced that the Left 4 Dead 2 public demo is now available to all PC gamers and Xbox 360 owners.

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the availability of the Left 4 Dead 2 demo to all PC gamers and all Xbox LIVE Gold Members.

The Left 4 Dead 2 demo features gameplay taken from “The Parish” campaign, set in the New Orleans French Quarter. Playable by 1 to 4 players over local or Internet connections on both the Xbox 360 and PC (with two-player split screen available on the Xbox 360), the demo features all the new boss infected zombies and many of the new melee weapons included in the full product.

Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009′s marquee titles. Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more.

With the AI Director 2.0, L4D’s dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players’ performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Adding new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode, Scavenge, all available at launch.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Beta Details

The rumors of the Bad Company 2 Playstation 3 beta were correct. The press release states the Playstation 3 beta will start November 19th, while a PC open beta will begin in December. Those in North America can gain access to the PlayStation 3 beta by pre-ordering the game from GameStop, with those in Europe and Asia told to be on the lookout for ‘local opportunities’” The December-due PC beta, meanwhile, will be open to all. But that’s not all, as a downloadable multiplayer demo will hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 ‘early next year,’ presumably before the shooter’s retail release on March 2.
